Gunshots at Nimitz High School in Irving prompted a lockdown Monday afternoon. The incident ended with two arrested.
Irving Police report a person pulled out a handgun during a fight in the parking lot and fired the weapon.
Nimitz High School was placed on lockdown shortly thereafter and police were called.
Irving Police said a vehicle was stopped and two people were taken into custody. No further details were given about the two people detained, including their ages or whether they were students at the school.
No injuries were reported.
Per officials, “the incident is still under investigation, we can assure you that the incident occurred outside the building…”
The statement continued, “…and again, all students and staff are safe.”
Classes were dismissed at the regular hour with no further incidents. Irving Police were more visible than usual and on heightened alert after the gunshot incident.
More Incidents Like Gunshots At Nimitz High School
This incident follows several recent events in the past six months where firearms were found on a local campus or threats were made.
At Berkner High School a person was arrested carrying firearms on campus shortly after the Uvalde massacre. The next day a social media threat was founded pointed at Pinkston High School in Dallas.
It is unclear in this Irving case involves students or others not affiliated with the school.
