Jenkins opens jail doors under his new proposal to release inmates onto Dallas streets.
The vote came at the Dallas County Commissioners‘ meeting yesterday. Proponents say the move will alleviate overcrowding at the jail.
The current standard requires two community references for an inmate to be eligible for pre-trial release. This move will make the standard one.
“What we are trying to do is get people back to their families…,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.
Jenkins Opens Jail Doors Despite Rising Crime
Jenkins’ move comes as Dallas continues to experience higher crime numbers across the city and county.
The move also comes the same day of a carjacking that ended in an accident near 8th street involving a two time jail escapee.
