Hinojosa: Will Not Shut the District Down

Will Not Shut the District Down

In a local NBC interview, Dallas Schools’ Superintendent Michael Hinojosa says coronavirus “will not shut the district down.”

Will Not Shut the District Down

Hinojosa said students do not learn as well when they are not in person, but he also made oblique references to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) not funding virtual education programs.

On previous occasions, TEA has inserted itself into health decisions contrary to Centers for Disease Control guidance.

Will Not Shut the District Down…Unless…

The Superintendent’s statements remind some of the caution Dallas ISD had during Spring Break 2020 when they could not make a definitive decision about return to school despite overwhelming cases of coronavirus in Dallas and in Texas.

Dallas ISD waited until students had left school on Spring Break to announce education would not return to the classroom.

Dallas Schools have announced mask mandates will remain in place. It is unclear if non parental community activists will continue harassing local schools or not.

Public Input Requested For Federal Dollars

Federal dollars are coming to Dallas and public input is being requested for the use of those dollars.

The City of Dallas Community Development Commission (CDC), along with staff from Budget and Management Services will hold a series of virtual neighborhood public meetings to inform residents of the potential uses of U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds.

The meetings are also designed to encourage residents to provide input on how the City uses these federal grant funds to address community needs.

Federal Dollars

The HUD grants serve low-and-moderate income residents and communities in Dallas. The FY 2022-23 Action Plan (annual budget) will be submitted to HUD August 2022. The meetings begin virtually Thursday, January 6 to January 20.

Abbott Begs For Help Again

Abbott Begs For Help

Texas Governor Greg Abbott begs for federal socialist help again per a statement from his office.

The Texas governor, who has opposed COVID19 vaccine mandates and other preventive measures, said on Friday that his state had requested federal help with testing sites.

Abbott Begs For Help

Abbott said in a press release that the state requested “resources for federally-supported testing locations and medical personnel and additional federal allocations of monoclonal antibodies.”

In June 2020, Governor Abbott blamed young people for the rise in COVID19 cases only to be diagnosed with the virus himself. He used monoclonal antibodies – a high dollar treatment option when he was diagnosed with coronavirus himself just a day after being at a fundraiser event the day before.

In October, Abbott issued a state executive order that barred Texas entities, including private business, from issuing COVID-related vaccine mandates. That came after the federal government announced a plan requiring private businesses with more than one hundred employees to require vaccinations or weekly testing.

Abbott was accused if playing politics at the time.

His statement against President Biden stated, “In yet another instance of federal government overreach, the Biden Administration is now bullying many private entities into imposing COVID19 vaccine mandates, causing workforce disruptions that threaten Texas’ continued recovery from the COVID19 disaster.”

Abbott is facing a primary challenge from both former Congressman Allen West and former Texas Senator Don Huffines.

Huffines has attacked Abbott on issues ranging from government administration to illegal immigrants, the coronavirus response, and blaming the governor for last year’s February power outages which he called “ridiculous.”

Abbott Begs Like Last Year While Denying Local Assistance

In August 2021, Abbott denied coronavirus response resources requested by Dallas area hospitals battling increasing hospital admissions.

Hospitals in Dallas and throughout North Texas said they needed hundreds of additional emergency staff to deal with the surge of viral cases of coronavirus. The state denied their request for emergency personnel.

Marcus Turner Fireworks Coming?

Kaboom. Are Marcus Turner fireworks coming after he posted to Facebook a fire works display on New Year’s Eve?

The video is below.

In his Facebook post he says “Hope you had a great New Years Eve and have a even better New Year. We haven’t been able to see each other in a while. I hope that changes soon…”

Marcus Turner Fireworks

The City of Dallas and its suburban partners normally put out notices stating fireworks are illegal and will be punished by fines of up to $2000, but after a PR blitz in July, there were not reported prosecutions from fireworks in Dallas.

In other local news, police are still on the lookout for Abel Acosta in the triple murder of three teens last Sunday. His father remains in prison in lieu of a $3M bond. He is charged as an accompice in the crime.

There have also been no developments in the squirrel murder manhunt in Preston Hollow. One police source said this case may be “a tough nut to crack.”

Happy New Year 2022

From everyone at Other Side Dallas we wish you a very Happy New Year 2022 and hope the New Year brings us all closer together.

Happy New Year 2022

As you enjoy your holiday and the start of another year, wee hope you will remember the many front line responders (policefire, EMS) and hospital workers who work today to bring you safety while you spend time during this pandemic, COVID19.

CD32 GOP Candidate Forum In Two Weeks

CD32 GOP Candidate Forum

Dallas County Republican voters will have an opportunity to hear from prospective Members of Congress at the CD32 GOP candidate forum on January 13, 20222 in two weeks.

CD32 GOP Candidate Forum

The event will take place at 6:30PM at the Studio Movie Grill on Royal Lane in North Dallas and will give local Republicans the chance to choose between mainstream conservatism or the growing chorus of QAnon backed candidates in Texas politics that have taken to protesting local schools despite having no children in the classroom.

CD32 GOP Candidate Forum Listing

The following candidates for the Republican nomination in Congressional District 32 are listed as part of the event:

Nathan Davis – a self described “American First Republican” from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Bronx, New York.

Darrell Day

Brad Namdar – perhaps the prohibitive favorite in the race. He is a small business owner and appointee of Governor Greg Abbott. He has also enjoyed multiple national media appearances.

Ejike Opka – if a second candidate exists who can challenge, it may be Opka who is a local real estate investor and former Dallas mayoral candidate. Opka should be able to raise the money needed to be competitive, but Namdar may be too far in front with grassroots support, and as of this writing still does not have an obvious website presence.

Garland Police On Hunt For 14 Year Old Shooter

Garland Police Statement

Detectives have discovered evidence identifying Abel Elias Acosta as the shooter responsible for killing three and wounding a fourth at a convenience store on December 26, 2021.

It is typically not the practice of the Garland Police Department to release juvenile information, but due to the nature of the offense and potential risk to the public, the court has authorized the release of his information.

Detectives obtained a Directive to Apprehend Abel Elias Acosta, age fourteen (14). Abel is facing the charge of Capital Murder for the shooting death of the three teenagers.

A Directive to Apprehend is defined by Texas Family Code, 52.015 as:
a) On the request of a law enforcement or probation officer, a juvenile court may issue a directive to apprehend a child if the court finds there is probable cause to take the child into custody under the provisions of this title.

Abel Elias Acosta is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male with dark hair, brown eyes, approximately 5’ 05” in height, and weighing around 125 pounds.

Sudden COVID19 Restaurant Closures

Sudden COVID19 Restaurant Closures

Mask and vaccine mandates are not the cause of the recent COVID19 restaurant closures – it is a lack of staffing.

Governor Greg Abbott has pushed to stop mask mandates and defied recommendations on school learning, but has tried to extend his reverse mandate to private businesses too. Abbott later became infected with COVID19 and was COVID19 positive while attending an event locally in McKinney.

Those businesses are now feeling the crunch of employees testing positive for COVID19 in a wave of Omicron variant infections which have propelled numbers past last year’s highs.

Dallas Independent School District and other local ISDs are defying the Governor leading to protests against local schools by QAnon “truth warriors.”

Ongoing COVID19 Restaurant Closures

Local restaurant favorites like Amor Y Queso in Deep Ellum and Uchi Dallas have temporarily closed their doors after the COVID19 outbreak.

While local police are hunting for the person responsible for a triple homicide in Garland, Ms. Benjamin is aking Dallas Police to investigate what many in the now deleted or removed thread to believe an animal on animal attack.

Dallas County Republican Party officials did not respond to an email requesting comment, but another Republican who sent Other Side Dallas the screenshots said, “the wannabe victimhood of someone who lives in a million dollar home is appalling.”

She continued, “Diane is living in fantasy land. She lives paranoid Joe Biden is going to order an illegal alien to force her to take a vaccination which she will be taxed more for receiving.”

Locally, QAnon has taken over more grassroots leadership positions in the Dallas area despite the clear correlation to losing general election votes because of their actions.

Their actions led to local realtor Jenna Ryan going to Washington for the January 6th insurrection and famously claiming she would not go to jail because she is white before ultimately being sentenced to jail.

It has also led to multiple protests at Dealey Montessori by local activists with no connection to the school other than anger at the mask mandate that exists district wide.

Ms. Benjamin signs her posts GOP Precinct Chair 2021. She is the mother of D11 city council candidate Barry Wernick who lost earlier this year to Jaynie Schultz.

Merry Texas Christmas 2021

Other Side Dallas wishes all its readers, members of Dallas City Council, and businesses a very Merry Texas Christmas 2021.

Christmas 2021

We wanted to share the quote below from one of our favorite holiday stories in hopes that we all find these days to be filled with charity, mercy, and general good acts of kindness. These are the same traits that brought America together in difficult times past and together we accomplish so much more than apart.

We hope you will remember the many front line responders (police, fire, EMS) and hospital workers who work today to bring you safety while you spend time during this pandemic, COVID19.
