Health Science’s Giselle Chapa Headed to Harvard

Townview Health’s Giselle Chapa is headed to Harvard University on scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year per a Twitter post earlier this week.

It is unclear if Chapa will receive a parade or any commendation from Dallas Independent School District‘s Board of Trustees. They have repeatedly made efforts to recognize South Oak Cliff’s football team.

Giselle Chapa’s Hopes

Chapa is planning on becoming a physician when she completes her studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. We have reached out to Townview to learn what area of focus Ms. Chapa hopes to pursue after college and medical school.

On a related note, another alumni from Townview’s Science and Engineering (Townview SEM) program Class of 2021 is being honored for putting together a baseball nonprofit for children with cancer.

Dallas Shootings On Repeat

Dallas Police seem to have no answers for the mass Dallas shootings on repeat every weekend.

One person is dead and almost another ten are wounded after another shooting in Dallas.

Per Dallas law enforcement sources, officers responded to a shooting at a trail ride and concert venue in the 5000 block of Cleveland Road at approximately 12:13 AM.

Early leads in the investigation say one individual fired a gun into the air, and another individual fired a gun into the crowd, police said.

Mass Dallas Shootings On Repeat

As one commenter noted, South Dallas has become South Chicago. and the police have no answers except to accept awards for statistics they don’t share with the public.

Dallas Mom Arrested After Road Rage Shooting

A Dallas mom, Lacravivonne Monique Washington, has been arrested after she reported her three year old son had been shot in a road rage shooting for outstanding warrants.

In addition to the current charges, Dallas Police have charged Washington with Child Endangerment and Tampering with Evidence. The investigation determined she concealed a handgun during the investigation and that the three year old had access to it.

Monday morning, Washington arrived at Medical City Children’s Hospital Emergency Room with her three year old son who had been shot.

She reported the child had been shot during a road rage incident. The child died of his injuries at the hospital.

Detectives have pursued leads, but have found no evidence of a road rage incident.

There have been other road rage incidents leading to shootings.

In a Twitter release, the Hamilton campaign notes endorsements from numerous North Texas leaders including Congressman Marc Veasey, the Honorable Ron Kirk, State Senator Beverly Powell, State Representative Chris Turner, State Representative Rafael Anchía, and Commissioner John Wiley Price.

Townview Alumni Community Service

Towniew magnet’s nonprofit site reports that Science and Engineering Townview alumni community service continues with Class of 2021 graduate, Dodge Suprun, raising money to bring baseball to kids with cancer.

Suprun, a member of Science and Engineering Class of 2021, and his charity, Strike Out Kids Cancer nonprofit, are the charity partners of the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team on Opening Night. Suprun’s charity also announced that Seinfeld’s Larry Thomas will sign autographs for select ticket holders.

Locally, Strike Out Kids Cancer has previoously participated in North Texas Giving Day and plans to again this year.

Suprun was recruited to play baseball for the City College of New York Beavers where he is a two way player, playing the field and pitching, and studying economics.

Royce West Endorsing Jane Hope Hamilton

A rumor is circulating that Royce West is endorsing Jane Hope Hamilton as early as this weekend. This would be another significant endorsement in the Democratic Primary runoff in Texas Congressional District 30.

Jane Hope Hamilton previously announced multiple endorsements from both current office holders and former opponents.

It is not clear if thes endorsements help, but Crockett’s campaign was hit by allegations of inappropriate behavior by her Chief of Staff Karrol Rimal earlier in the campaign. The Youtube video below includes some of his comments.

Royneco Tiun Harris Captured

Royneco Tiun Harris, number one on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Most Wanted list, was captured March 23rd.

Special agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Harris in Dallas assigned to the North Texas Anti-Gang Center.

Harris, 42, of Dallas, is affiliated with the 65 Groveside gang.

Royneco Tiun Harris Details

Harris had been wanted since October 2021.

Harris removed his GPS monitoring device during his trial and fled. His charges stem from the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of that man’s child.

Harris’ trial continued without him and he was found guilty and sentenced to ninety-nine (99) years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison.

Local police are still on the hunt for Abel Elias Acosta – the Garland Christmas shooter who murdered three.

North Texas Gas Theft

North Texas gas theft is on the rise per local law enforcement with the rising price of fuel outpacing salary increases.

North Texas Gas Theft Seen In Oak Cliff

Dallas police found hundreds of gallons in stolen gas during a raid on a property in Oak Cliff. In that case, the fuel was being pumped into a working gas pump on property.

In Texas, gas thieves are hitting both individuals and gas stations. In Houston, thieves stole over one thousand gallons over the course of four days.

Dallas police were recently honored for lowering violent crime numbers.

Rowlett Helicopter Crash

Fire and emergency crews responded to a Rowlett helicopter crash this afternoon.

In the video shown above, the helicopter is seen without its tail rotor. The pilot appears to have the aircraft autorotating level for a hundred feet or so before the aircraft inverts.

Rowlett Fire Department responded to the crash and Other Side Dallas will update this story as details become available.

The National Transportation Safety Board is reportedly already on scene, but the pilot has died per public safety sources.

The Rowlett Fire Department provides emergency and non-emergency services to an area of twenty-one square miles in eastern Dallas and has a residential population of 62,000. On any given day there are thirty firefighters on shift staffing their four stations.

White Rock Farmers Market Opens In New Location

White Rock Farmers Market is moving from its previous address to White Rock United Methodist Church at 1450 Old Gate Lane.

The market has wide variety of stalls with both craft and food vendors.

One of the more popular vendors in our estimation is Texas Pie Kings. The Dallas based pie company makes both sweet and savory pies and is consistently a favorite of fellow vendors and market goers.

White Rock Farmers Market Moves After Fourteen Years

Lakepointe Church, the previous home of the White Rock market for fourteen years is undergoing renovations which made hosting the farmers market impossible for the forseeable future.
