The article says Neave wins the SD16 race if the election were held today. The poll reflects voter recognition of her leadership and work in the Texas legislature.

Victoria Neave Criado is the daughter of an immigrant and was the first in her family to graduate from college.

Today, she is a lawyer and is a leading voice in the Texas State House since her election in 2016.

In the Texas legislature, Victoria secured a major legislative victory with landmark legislation, the Lavinia Masters Act. That law combined with an unprecedented $50 million tackles the rape kit backlog. This brings long-overdue justice to thousands of survivors of sexual assault.

Dallas Flushes $55M

Dallas flushes $55M in taxpayer dollars with a yawn after a consent agenda item to pay out the sum to Trinity East Energy.

The agenda item can be seen here was referenced in a story by Tim Rogers at D Magazine.

Former city manager Mary Suhm engaged the city in a secret side deal with Trinity East Energy. The deal provided the city with tens of millions of dollars. In exchange the got drilling rights under park property.

Eventually, this side deal led to a lawsuit against the City of Dallas and taxpayers holding the bag.

Rogers’ point though was who is watching out for taxpayers.

In another era where city council is going to ask citizens for a loan to cover their unbudgeted pension obligations, who is watching the store?

The ESPN staff writer said Prescott has a $59.4 million salary cap figure. This is the second largest in the NFL behind Deshaun Watson in Cleveland.

Archer covers the brutal truth of the Prescott contract noting he has a no trade clause and can not be franchised next year. The contract is much like Tony Romo’s before the end of his career and leave few options.

New Elementary School Planned

New elementary school planned for Dallas Independent School District students will offer 500 young people STEAM options.

Dallas Independent School District currently has three other STEAM Dallas magnets.

STEAM schools offer a focus on science, technology, math and the arts for students interested in these areas.

The Urban Park Steam Academy will include pre-K through fifth-grade students. It is budgeted to cost $34M.

The old school will be demolished once the new campus is complete and students have moved into the new facility.

This school is in addition to the planned healthcare high school coming funded by Mike Bloomberg.

Healthcare High School Coming

Healthcare High School coming to Dallas after Mike Bloomberg commits $250M to ten campuses across the United States.

The Dallas high school will have a focus on the healthcare industry.

It will be similar to Dallas Independent School District and their magnet high school and their Townview health school.

Baylor Scott & White Health and the public charter school system Uplift Education are collaborating to transform the West Dallas’ Uplift Heights Preparatory campus.

They also plan to establish a health science pathway at Grand Prairie’s Uplift Grand Preparatory.

“These innovative programs … have the potential to not only change the trajectory of young lives, but the economic health of families and neighborhoods we serve,” leaders from Baylor Scott & White and Uplift said in a joint statement.

The local partnership will receive about $14.6 million from the pool of funds to roll out its offerings.

Another healthcare school is opening in the Houston Area partnering with Memorial Hermann Health System.

Healthcare High School Coming Fill Employer Gaps

Through dedicated high schools and new pathways, students will get training, credentials and experience.

Leaders anticipate students can get certified as surgical technologists, radiology technicians and respiratory therapists.

Officials aim to get students working with partner healthcare providers straight after graduating.

McCarthy Stays SuperBowl Goes?

McCarthy stays SuperBowl goes appears to be the thinking of the Cowboys front office as the head coach is staying in Dallas.

Team owner and General Manager Jerry Jones put out a statement yesterday. In it he says the Cowboys are “very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals.”

His statement continues, “…and the best step forward for all of us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach.”

McCarthy has one year left on his contract and many thought it was doubtful he would return. The Sunday debacle in the NFL playoffs Wild Card round against the Green Bay Packers put his future at question.

The Cowboys gave up 48 points this past Sunday. They were the first team to lose to a 7 seed in the new playoff format.

Dan Quinn has already interviewed with the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans yesterday. He is also plans to take interviews with the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers later this week.

He is being considered for the head coaching vacancy at each.

McCarthy Stays SuperBowl Goes – Dak Responsible?

One reason McCarthy may stay in Dallas is the team leading in average points per game. They scored nearly thirty points per game across the seventeen game season.

Another related reason may be the resurgence of Dak Prescott. Prescott consistently led the team until the playoffs.

Prescott also came out definitively for Coach McCarthy after the playoff loss.

Prescott’s current contract counts nearly fifty million dollars towards the salary cap meaning he must either be resigned to a cap friendly deal or be traded if the Cowboys will maintain any other significant players.

The question now is how will keeping things the same change the future. It is possible McCarthy will stay and SuperBowl opportunities will go.

Yesterday was a one off for Dallas ISD closed using its inclement weather days to keep campus closed to students and staff.

Schools in Dallas Independent School District are being monitored for heating and burst pipes.

Maintenance officials appear to have the systems in place to keep students and staff warm. Additionally, early reports indicate busses running on time.

Dallas ISD closed Tuesday due to low temperatures and student safety across Dallas and the cities it covers.

Roadways appear to be significantly improved after the cold weather assault on the region this weekend, but school is still out.

The first extreme weather for 2024 is causing worry about students standing as bus stops in sub freezing temperatures.

There is also generic concern about the impact of two hundred schools and the impact on the electrical grid.

There have been reported power outages across Dallas, but do not appear to be the result of grid failures.

The National Weather Service anticipates temperatures above freezing mid-day on Wednesday.

Irving Arrest Dallas PD Deron Coleman

Irving Arrest Dallas PD Deron Coleman Sunday just days after a similar arrest of another Dallas officer in Pilot Point.

The two arrests continue a regular series of arrests of Dallas officers for suspicion of driving intoxicated.

Coleman is on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation.

Coleman joined Dallas Police Department in 2019. He is assigned to the Community Engagement and Operations Bureau.

Coleman’s arrest comes just two days after Dallas Police were notified of the arrest of Senior Corporal James Goetz for suspicion of DUI.

Irving Arrest Dallas PD

There have been numerous incidents involving off duty police and alcohol over the past several years.

Lieutenant Brian William Deininger was unable to respond in his vehicle in Irving several years ago.

2022 included the arrest of at least two officers had issues with DWI off duty from Dallas Police.

The first was Daniel Jamieson in McKinney in May 2022.

The second was a Public Integrity Detective.

Dallas Officer DUI

Dallas officer DUI in headlines again after a Friday arrest in Pilot Point, Texas of another police officer in Dallas.

Senior Corporal James Goetz, who was off duty at the time, was arrested by the Pilot Point Police Department. The charge he is arrested on is suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Police officials in Pilot Point have not released a statement at this time. Goetz is on leave pending an investigation.
