This is a free course that does not require identification but does require pre-registration.

It is ideal for individuals who are active in their neighborhood. Those interested in emergency/disaster preparedness and interested in helping out in their neighborhood/community during disasters.

Throughout this course, participants receive training on disaster preparedness. This includes preparing for yourself and your family. The course will include basic first aid, light search and rescue, fire safety and more.

Disaster Training For 2024

Dallas CERT training starts with coursework on preparation and the CERT organization.

Additionally, the course continues with disaster medical operations, basic disaster psychology, and fire safety and utility control.

CERT programs normally cover basic search and rescue.

The course does not provide citizens with the skills or experience to respond to major incidents like Dallas’ monkeypox incident.

Residents must attend all three classes to receive a course completion certificate and register online.

DFW Arctic Blast 2022

DFW Arctic Blast 2022

DFW Arctic Blast 2022 is on its way and will hit Thursday bringing with it reminders of power outages in 2021.

The National Weather Service is predicting much colder temperatures arrive on Thursday. A cold front will surge south across much of the United States.

DFW Arctic Blast 2022

The exact timing on the front is still somewhat uncertain.

The high temperature of the day for most will likely occur during the morning hours. Temperatures will then fall sharply throughout the day.

Peak wind gusts near 45 MPH are likely, and higher wind gusts cannot be ruled out. This will result in wind chill values in the single digits and teens.

DFW Arctic Blast 2022

DFW Arctic Blast 2022 – Prepare Now!

A major concern with the incoming weather is the possibility of power outages.

In early 2021 many in DFW experienced multiple days without power as ERCOT‘s inability to manage the Texas grid became apparent. ERCOT failed again six months later during the summer causing rolling blackouts.

One Emergency Manager suggested “charge everything – including back-up power banks – in the next day.”

Additional suggestions included filling gas tanks, having emergency supplies available including in your car, and preparation to be without power for a couple days.

NTSB Investigating Dallas Crash

FAA Investigating Dallas MidAir Crash

NTSB investigating Dallas crash per local officials speaking after the horrific air show crash at Dallas Executive Airport.

Per the FAA, “A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 King Cobra collided and crashed at the Wings Over Dallas Airshow at Dallas Executive Airport in Texas…”

In a website based statement, Wings Over Dallas said, “Currently we do not have information on the status of the flight crews as emergency responders are working the accident.”

They continued, “The Commemorative Air Force is working with local authorities, the FAA, and the NTSB will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.”

NTSB Investigating Crash MidAir After Lives Lost

As the FAA investigating midair crash starts, at least one law firm has also expressed concern about lives lost.

Six people were reported dead following the crash. It is unclear who were pilots and crew versus paying passengers.

Air shows often make a profit by offering expensive plane rides in vintage World War II and similar aircraft.

FAA investigating Dallas midair crash

One witness to the event said, “this looks like a classic loss of situational awareness.”

“As can be seen one or both pilots did not communicate. It does not look like they practice together enough, ” she continued.

Mayor Eric Johnson tweeted from his campaign account on Saturday. There he said “no spectators or others on the ground were reported injured, although the debris field from the collision includes the Dallas Executive Airport grounds, Highway 67, and a nearby strip mall.”

Both Dallas Police and Dallas Fire Rescue defer to federal authorities in these events. Additionally, other city and county agencies are not equipped to investigate.

Organizers plan to cancel Sunday calendar events for the air show per the website.

A query system runs for those who want to follow up on the event.

The Aircraft Involved

The B17 was part of the collection of the Commemorative Air Force. Its group nickname is the “Texas Raiders.” The plane sits in Conroe, Texas near Houston.

Additionally, there are only forty-five surviving examples of the B17 plane. Only nine are airworthy. B17 bombers were the backbone of American bomber strength during World War II. They were the basis of bomber strength in the European theater.

The P-63 was even rarer. There are only fourteen examples known in existence. Four are airworthy including one owned by the Commemorative Air Force.

Clay Got COVID19 – Ignoring Own Warnings

Four sources confirmed that Jenkins most recent routine did not include masks or social distancing.

Several of those sources believe Jenkins was isolating before the diagnosis given his recent work habits.

The same sources say Jenkins wanted to run for Governor. They say he has no fire to be Dallas County Judge anymore.

One county staffer said, “he is going through the motions, but isn’t there mentally anymore.”

COVID19 Stats

Cases are on the rise again though down from last year. Dallas County is currently on an “Extreme Caution” warning level.

Monkeypox in Dallas, Texas

Monkeypox

Communicable disease disasters are back on the frontburner as monkeypox in Dallas was announced yesterday afternoon in a combined press conference by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Dallas County Health officials.

Monkeypox

DSHS is actively working with Dallas County Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the current single case of the virus infection in a Dallas County resident who had traveled to Mexico recently.

The patient is isolated at home. The public health investigation has identified a few people who may have been exposed in Dallas and are monitoring themselves for symptoms of infection. The illness does not currently present a risk to the general public thought there are multiple cases happening in Europe indicating it may be community spread.

The CDC are tracking multiple cases of monkeypox that have been reported in several countries that don’t normally report monkeypox, including the United States. DSHS and the CDC urge health care providers in the United States to be alert for patients with rash illnesses consistent to monkeypox.

Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal.

Monkeypox

It can also be transmitted from person to person by inhaling large respiratory droplets or through close contact with body fluids and lesions, as well as bedding and other contaminated materials. Those infected may experience fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes, as well as more serious complications.

Monkeypox in Dallas – Again

Last July, a patient returning from international travel was diagnosed with monkeypox. That diagnosis and the presence of Candida Auris – an untreatable fungal infection – led to concerns about additional infections on top of the coronavirus pandemic.

Southwest has been pushing to elimenate the mask mandate for some time, despite Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly getting coronavirus himself.

The mask mandate itself has led to multiple arrests and assaults on aircraft.

Southwest Airlines, Love Field Drops Masks Plus More

Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue, and United all dropped their masking requirements in the immediate hours after the ruling.

There is no indication the Biden Administration will appeal the decision.
