Gunshots At Nimitz High School

Gunshots at Nimitz High School in Irving prompted a lockdown Monday afternoon. The incident ended with two arrested.

Irving Police report a person pulled out a handgun during a fight in the parking lot and fired the weapon.

Nimitz High School was placed on lockdown shortly thereafter and police were called.

Irving Police said a vehicle was stopped and two people were taken into custody. No further details were given about the two people detained, including their ages or whether they were students at the school.

No injuries were reported.

Per officials, “the incident is still under investigation, we can assure you that the incident occurred outside the building…”

The statement continued, “…and again, all students and staff are safe.”

Classes were dismissed at the regular hour with no further incidents. Irving Police were more visible than usual and on heightened alert after the gunshot incident.

More Incidents Like Gunshots At Nimitz High School

This incident follows several recent events in the past six months where firearms were found on a local campus or threats were made.

At Berkner High School a person was arrested carrying firearms on campus shortly after the Uvalde massacre. The next day a social media threat was founded pointed at Pinkston High School in Dallas.

It is unclear in this Irving case involves students or others not affiliated with the school.

Yaser Said convicted this afternoon in Dallas Judge Chika Anyiam’s court room. Said evaded arrest for the January 1, 2008, fatal shootings of his two daughters, Amina (18) and Sarah (17).

Said disappeared after the killings. He remained a fugitive from Irving Police for twelve years. Six of those years included being listing on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list.

Said was born in Sinai, Egypt. He came to the U.S. on a student visa in 1983. Said married Patricia “Tissie” Owens in February 1987 when he was thirty. Owens was fifteen at the time.

Patricia later alleged that Said abused her during their marriage.

Their daughter Amina was born in 1989, and Sarah was born in 1990.

Local police are investigating the Irving 19 year old teen shooting at a stoplight on Thursday morning near Macarthur Boulevard.

Irving police say the victim’s car was in the center lane while the suspect vehicle was next to it in the left lane.

Reports indicate the front passenger inside leaned his arm out of the window and shot the victim several times.

Police believe the suspects were in a 2018 Toyota Corolla, slate metallic color, with tinted windows. No license plate information is available.
