Coming Soon: Social Justice In South Dallas

Social Justice In South Dallas

A Dallas Independent School District press conference informed the public social justice in South Dallas was coming soon.

Students, staff, and community members gathered on campus for the announcement despite a Dallas ISD prohibition in most schools on visitors.

The new campus is expected to be completed in 2024.

Social Justice In South Dallas

Social Justice In South Dallas Academy Named After John Lewis

“I’m happy to announce that O.W. Holmes will now be the John Lewis Social Justice Academy at O.W. Holmes,” Dallas ISD Trustee Maxie Johnson told those assembled. Johnson is also pastor at New Morning Star Baptist Church.

The school is currently named for Oliver Wendell Holmes, the Supreme Court Justice, who has been the third-most cited American legal scholar of the 20th century.

It is unclear Trustee Johnson’s commitment to social justice though. In the summer, Johnson accused white and Latino parents at Harry Stone of being racist after they raised concerns about school funds being misappropriated. The meeting revealed that staff has been assaulted by a family member of another school employee.

Early in the school year, Johnson also returned to calling parents racist after they expressed concern over hidden COVID19 numbers at Harry Stone that have now risen to fifty total cases out of a student population of approximately three hundred.

There were no protests arranged at Harry Stone Montessori over these numbers, unlike Dealey Montessori in North Dallas – which is predominantly white. Trustee Johnson has yet to return email requests for comment on his actions on any of these topics.

Holiday Over Except For Dallas ISD Transportation

Dallas ISD Transportation

Dallas ISD Transportation is continuing its Thanksgiving holiday with reports of multiple riders missing rides to school this morning, particularly to the Townview Magnet Complex. Riders at the Hillcrest High School location numbered multiple dozen and waited for at least an hour.

It is not clear how many total schools are being affected, but Other Side Dallas has been on hold for forty-five minutes as of this writing.

Dallas ISD Transportation

Dallas Independent School District has generally been credited with a strong turnaround of the transportation system this year after decades of corruption with the Dallas County Schools scandal. Last December, attorney Richard Reynolds was sentenced for his role in that corruption.

Dallas ISD Transportation Contacts

The student transportation call center is staffed from 6:00AM to 6:00PM Monday thru Friday, excluding school holidays. Parents can call either (972) 925-4BUS or (972) 925-4287.

Beth Wing Inappropriate Casting

Beth Wing Inappropriate Casting

Per Dealey Principal Beth Wing inappropriate casting caused a school play cancellation. The issue was not a surprise to Wing who waited to act.

The cancellation comes hours before showtime. Parents seem outraged the Dallas Independent School District‘s premier campuses continues in disarray.

Beth Wing Inappropriate Casting

The underlying issue is the casting of an African American student as a slave in a school play. The same play has run between fifteen and seventeen previous years without problem.

One parent posted on social media “Do wish that there was a better explanation besides alluding a parent wasn’t happy with the roles their child was given.” Communication has been a frequent criticism for Wing throughout her tenure at Dealey.

Other parents asked if the issue was school leadership and what happened to “the show must go on.”

Beth Wing Inappropriate Casting

Dallas ISD would not comment to Other Side Dallas about the issue beyond Wing’s email. The email did not go to all parents, but only those involved with the production.

It is unclear if students will have the opportunity to perform in a different show later.

It is also unclear the staff perspective on the issue either. Both parents and staff confirmed this production has run without problem for years.

More Beth Wing Inappropriate Casting

One parent said Ms. Wing received notification on the issue six weeks ago. The parent said Wing would not consider a conversation on the topic.

Wing has been criticized for her response to professional protestors on campus over the district mask mandate. Since she has allowed unmasked children on campus, several new cases have occurred.

She has also muzzled parent activism in support of the mask mandate. In at least one case she threatened parents over participation in a counter protest.

Generally, confusion has led parents to feeling frustrated. A few parents said Dallas ISD is guilty of inappropriate casting of Beth Wing as a principal and leader.

Dealey 7 New COVID 19 Cases

Dealey 7 New COVID 19 Cases

Data released by Dallas Independent School District tells the story. Dealey 7 new cases of COVID19 since dropping the mask mandate. The mandate dropped for two students out of several hundred.

The impact is being felt as several full classrooms are being required to quarantine. This comes after the reckless nature of one parent.

The parent is being enabled by both principal, Beth Wing and PTA President Alishia Salmon.

Dealey 7 New COVID 19 Cases
The DISD coronavirus dashboard shows five cases at Dealey. It does not reflect the seven cases listed in an email to parents.

Dallas County COVID19 numbers are falling. They are rising on the Dealey campus where mask mandates are now ignored.

Dealey 7

Officials expect the Dealey 7 numbers to rise after they surrendered on masks. The mandate has had almost 100% compliance.

In mid October there was a protest involving two dozen paid activists. That protest harrassed both staff and students as young as four.

Adults using bullhorns hurled accusations at kindergarten students over unfounded abuse claims. Officials did say protestors must stay on sidewalks, but did not maintain that zone. During the October protest parents reported protestors with firearms at school.

Dallas ISD Police and Dallas Police stated there were no arrests during protests.

Protest ring leader, Lauren Davis has not responded to many emails for comment. She is Chief Culture Officer for The Gents Place.

Despite protests, Davis’ children wear masks in other locations around Dallas. There is no record of her complaint anywhere other than Dallas ISD leading up to these events.

The Gents Place did post an ominous question earlier asking which was the better weapon: the AK47 or M16. Some have called it charged with an implicit threat to the school.

Dallas school officials have also declined to respond to emails. These emails from both parents and Other Side Dallas show the district in bunker mode.

Parents say the Dealey PTA leadership, particularly Alishia Salmon, enables the Davis complaint. She talks about “community” without taking any action to stop Ms. Davis for her role in protests.

COVID19 Returns To Dealey with Unmasked Students

COVID19 Returns to Dealey

COVID19 returns to Dealey Montessori magnet school in North Dallas with Dallas Independent School District allowing unmasked students to enter the classroom in violation of their own mask mandates.

COVID19 Returns to Dealey

Sources say that while COVID19 numbers are reported to be three cases on the Royal Lane campus, the real numbers may be twice that.

COVID19 Returns to Dealey

Dealey Montessori was the site of two dozen protestors harrassing children as young as four jutst two weeks ago causing the school to back down from its own health protection standard.

COVID19 Returns to Dealey

Lauren Davis, Chief Culture Owner and spouse of The Gents Place, was pushing for her children to be allowed in regular classrooms unmasked despite wearing masks in other parts of their lives.

The Davis family business Twitter account also had an ominous post about which is better: the AK47 or M16 two days prior to the protest in what some called a threat.

Dallas ISD Keeps Speakers Off Agenda

Dallas Independent School District keeps speakers off agenda for tonight’s Board of Trustees meeting per two parents who requested to address agenda items pertaining to Dallas ISD’s mask mandate.

Dallas ISD Keeps Speakers Off Agenda
Dallas ISD will not consider public comment on mask mandates after Dealey Montessori Principal Beth Wing accused of child abuse.

One board agenda item is board members received guidance from their counsel about the Koch vs Jenkins lawsuit over mask mandates in Dallas County.

Speakers Off Agenda Could Be First Amendment Violation

It is unclear if this Dallas ISD staff decision was made secondary to the potential for a second protest at Dealey or other factors and neither Communications, nor Legal Services, has responded to our inquiries.

The decision however could be a Constitutional problem which will create another headache for a school district that by and large has done the right thing per most parents in the face of COVID19.

Another Protest At Dealey?

Protest At Dealey

Dallas ISD may be getting ready for another protest at Dealey Montessori. Details are unconfirmed at this point, but there are indications another protest is being planned for the North Dallas Montessori campus and again, school officials are not communicating with parents.

Protest At Dealey Accuses Beth Wing Of Child Abuse

The first protest accused Principal Beth Wing of child abuse for partially enforcing the ISD mask mandate. While there is no evidence of child abuse by Wing, numerous parents have been frustrated by the lack of communication which even central office staff admit is a problem.

Chief of School Leadership Tiffany Huitt had issued a remind message saying protestors were not allowed on school property, but numerous examples of that happened and school officials including Dallas ISD Police did nothing.

There was also at least one report of a firearm on campus – a problem given the Davis family business post on their Twitter account earlier in the week.

Protest At Dealey

Second Protest At Dealey

The first protest occured October 14, 2021 right before dismissal. It included roughly two dozen non-parents showing up and yelling at grade school children who were attempting to walk home.

A counter protest was stopped by an intervening parent.

Adam McGough Acts On Dealey Fear

Dealey Fear

Adam McGough acted immediately this morning on Dealey fear of the planned protest by the Davis family.

Minutes after being texted by OSD, he responded “I have brought this concern to top DPD leadership.”

So far he is the only person to respond.

As reported earlier this morning, the Davis’ business tweeted earlier this week a message about choosing between an AK47 and M16 on a business account unrelated to hair salon services for men.

Dealey Fear

It is unclear why this guest post happened two days prior to their planned protest.

In am email, Dallas Police Deputy Chief Rick Watson states “This is the first I have heard about this information.” This counters a claim by DISD‘s Chief of School Leadership Tiffany Huitt that police would be on scene to maintain order.

Dealey Fear By Students

Since we published this morning an eighth grade parent emailed a screenshot from a cellphone parent monitoring app.

In the cellular text conversation – reported to be three Dealey students – one states “people are talking about them coming with weapons that wont happen right?”

The conversation’s participants are redacted for privacy per the parent source’s condition for publishing.

We will update if Dallas ISD or Dallas Police respond to us.

The Gents Place Culture?

The Gents Place Culture

The Gents Place Culture Officer Lauren Davis did not respond to a question about why the company Twitter account asked about a preference between an AK-47 and an M-16 rifle on their social media accounts while she is planning a protest at Dealey Montessori on Thursday, October 14.

The Gents Place Culture

The post above comes as Ms. Davis has escalated a private feud with Dallas Independent School District over their mask mandate to the point of organizing a prayer rally in front of the school and now a protest.

Her two Dealey students had previously disrupted classroom time in September.

The Gents Place Culture or School Threat?

Two parents asked late last night said that these images do not fit with a hair salon.

The Gents Place Culture Officer Lauren Davis Masked With Masked Child

“The question of firearms with everything else going on makes it appear they are intimidating the school,” said one. “This post comes out and 24 hours later DISD gives in to their insane demands all so she can get donations to help her struggling business.”

Dallas ISD did not inform parents that the students would be allowed to return to class via email or written communication. Many parents expressed shock and frustration that what had been a communal environment is being town apart by The Gents Place culture officer, and rumored potential candidate, who wears a mask in the Gents Place salon and while at church activites.

The Gents Place Culture Officer Lauren Davis Masked

It is unclear why she objects to her students wearing masks at Dealey Montessori. We have confirmed her high school student complies with the district mask mandate at Hillcrest High School without objection or disruption.

No word on how Dallas ISD will respond.

Unmasked At Dealey

Unmasked At Dealey

Two students will attend classes unmasked at Dealey Montessori starting Thursday, October 14 per multiple reports from Dallas ISD Central Office staff and school teachers who told students to prepare for their classmates return.

They are reportedly doing this under the auspices of a physician note, but both students have been photographed in other venues recently masked – at church and volunteer events.

Additionally, the protest organizer is reportedly going to be in Austin testifying before the state legislature about social media and its influence on children.

Unmasked At Dealey

One parent has described Lauren Davis as Shelley Luther 2.0.

Other Side Dallas is planning a full post on Lauren Davis, the salon culture officer, for Dallas based The Gents Place. At least one source noted this entire operation is to raise enough noise to create a fundraising mechanism to keep her business afloat.

Lauren Davis is reported to have instructed her children attending Dealey Montessori to protest the mask mandate and resulting accomodations. Her older son, a sophomore at Hillcrest High School complies with the mask mandate there.

Ms. Davis has previously organized a group to walk around the school saying prayers, but most recently organized a protest scheduled for tomorrow, October 14, to accuse the school of child abuse for forcing masks.

Unmasked At Dealey – Uninformed At Home

Parents were caught unaware when no notification came home with students and no email was transmitted to parents alerting them of the difference.

One parent noted, “Apparently the administration will officially send out a communication tomorrow but it’s pretty much been confirmed.”

Earlier this summer Superintendent Michael Hinojosa had stated Dallas ISD would not comply with the Governor’s mask mandate prohibition. One teacher noted out of 160,000 students, nineteen protested that decision initially. The number now is only two. They both attend Dealey.

In addition to the problems noted, the Davis children have also recorded a teacher in a Gay Straight Alliance meeting that the teacher sponsors. This is considered a Level II disciplinary matter, but it is not clear Dallas ISD has taken any disciplinary action against the family for the repeated disruptions or threats to safety via their attempts to be unmasked at Dealey.
